The Virginia Wind Festival is an informal, fun day with lots of wind activities for kids and opportunities for the community to learn more about wind energy in Virginia and the region. The goal of the Festival is to inform Virginia residents about the possibilities of wind energy, with a focus on the following:
The first Virginia Wind Festival was held March 16th, 2013 and was a great success thanks to all of our sponsors, exhibitors, teams, coaches, judges, and volunteers! The first Wind Festival was held in conjunction with the Virginia KidWind Challenge.
The best way to learn about wind energy and how a wind farm operates is to visit one! We occasionally tour wind energy facilities in West Virginia to educate and inform. If you are interested in taking a tour of a utility scale wind energy facility, contact us to learn about upcoming tours.
The Center works closely with county and local planners to help plan for wind energy development in their communities. These workshops commonly feature experts in the field of wind energy, champion success stories, planners from other areas that have gone through the process of planning for wind energy development, and lots of time for questions and answers. The Virginia Siting Scoring Tool and Virginia Model Ordinances are also often discussed. If you are interested in scheduling a workshop for your locality, or would like to register for a workshop near you, please contact us.
