Time-based Spatial Analysis Tool for Small Wind Turbine Installations in Virginia

This project provides a visual time-lapse tool illustrating the expansion of small wind energy systems in Virginia. ESRI's ArcGIS suite was used to build the time-lapse maps. The tool offers two modes of illustration of the time-lapse maps: 1. Coordinate based illustration pinpoints the locations of known wind turbine installations annually. 2. County wise color graded illustration uses varying depths of color to represent various levels of installed wind capacity across Virginia counties annually. The time-based spatial analysis tool is useful for visual comparative analyses that can provide wind investigators with an improved perspective on the current state of expansion of wind energy systems in Virginia. The time-lapse is further intended to serve as a public information tool.
